Installing your favorite apps on your new Android phone is a common initial step. Previously, you had to wait for each program to download individually from the Google Play Store. This can be really aggravating, especially for those of us who have downloaded dozens of apps over the process.

Fortunately, Google appears to have recently sped up this procedure. Today, it appears that the Play Store is capable of downloading two apps at once. It's a minor adjustment, but anything that reduces the time it takes to set up a new phone is a win for all users.

This is now working on a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, but according to 9to5Google, it should be available on a variety of Pixel smartphones with the newest Android and Play Store updates.

Unfortunately, Google did not go the further mile and enable the simultaneous download of numerous updates. The Galaxy S23 Ultra, which supports simultaneous downloads of new apps, does not support simultaneous downloads of updates for existing apps.

Obviously, receiving numerous app updates at once would be a more important quality of life update for Android, given that few people install many apps at once except when setting up a brand new phone. Still, it's likely that Google is taking things one step at a time, and simultaneous upgrade downloads could be coming shortly.
